DescriptionThe criminal solders from the previous plate are tortured as their punishment by the strappado: a device that drops the men, arms tied behind their backs, almost to the ground, causing broken and dislocated bones. In the town square, large groups of soldiers and a few small groups of townspeople are gathered to watch the proceedings. In the foreground on the far right, a soldier is lead out, arms bound, next to be punished.
