Description
A portrait of a woman, roughly from her knees up. She wears a long, dark, dress with a high collar. She stands slightly at an angle, looking forward directly at the viewer. Vertical lines along the left and right frame her body in the image. Her face and hair are the most detailed of the image, sketched with litho crayon, while her dress appears to have been created with more large swaths of wash to create the rick black tones. This print was commissioned by Munch's patron, Dr. Max Linde, the subject's husband. Munch produced many portraits of the Linde family, both prints, drawings and paintings.
