DescriptionThis print reflects Desmazières's imagined representation of Rembrandt's "kunst caemer." There Rembrandt was said to have stored collections of miscellaneous objects. Busts of emperors or philosophers dominate the top shelf, while casts of body segments and items such as helmets, baskets, and shells fill up the remainder of the room. The window on the far left provides the light source for the setting, producing many shadows and subtle variations in value.
