BiographyFrom "Pueblo Indian Pottery," by Gregory Schaaf, 2000, p. 248: Tomasita was born on February 2, 1899 and died on May 22, 1978. She started making pottery in 1930, and her specialty was incised polychrome redware jars, bowls, and vases, and fine line; micaceous jars and bowls. She was the wife of Juan Reyas Montoya, and mother of Dominguita Naranjo, with whom she made some of her pots, and Rosita de Herrera. Her favorite designs were clouds, kiva steps, triangular fret, and fine line hatching. She was one of the original seven potters in the 1930s "San Juan Revival." Her work is in the following collections: Heard Museum, Phoenix; Laboratory of Anthropology, Museum of New Mexico, Santa Fe; and the University of Kansas Museum of Anthropology, Lawrence, KA.
