DescriptionA ship sails past with the disciples aboard, looking out towards Christ on the shore. He speaks to a man, kneeling before Him, a demon escaping from his mouth. This image is on the verso of the sheet; PC2014.14.48 is on recto. The Schatzbehalter, or “treasure chest of the true riches of the saints and eternal salvation,” was an illustrated work published by Anton Koberger. It was written by Stephan Fridolin, a Franciscan in Nuremberg whose German text narrates 100 events in the life of Christ that are accompanied by 91 full-page woodcut illustrations.
