DescriptionAt center a bent and kneeling Mercury is being bound by winged Cupid, who has one foot on his back as he tightens and knots the rope. Mercury's winged helmet, bow and arrow lay at his feet. To their right, Venus stands calmly, one arm gesturing towards Cupid, clothed only in a draping sheet across her shoulders. In the background behind them, there appears to stand a circular temple to Mercury, with his statue at center, and woman tending to a flaming altar at its entrance. This record has been reviewed by University Galleries staff but may be incomplete or contain errors.
