VOLET.; artist's monogram G P within image at l.r. handwritten in brown ink in lower margin corrections to Latin inscription: an "A" over the "V" in "LIBERTVS"; an "N" over the "M" and a tracing of the lower part of the "Q" in "QVOMIAM"; a tail to make the "O" in "SIOVIS" a "Q"; and at end of inscription "george penk(?)s." with line running over top of both words.

Descriptionclassical, mythological subject; procession of figures in mountain landscape moving from left to right; at left four horses rearing and pullling a beared man in a chariot, gehind him standing on raised platform stands winged figure with bow and arrow (Cupid) blindfolded and aiming bow to right; procession of figures on right includes figure with trident (Poseidon) and at front figure with helmet and armor (Ares/Mars); at left a plume of smoke rises up from behind Cupid; in middleground at right is an open temple with a pediment and rows of columns, a large staircase terminates at a statue in a niche; in center background at top of image is a tower and surrounding structures perched at the top of a hill
