DescriptionIn the center of the image, a mother clutches her child and runs straight towards the viewer, her mouth open in horror. Around her, nude soldiers attack the women trying to save their children; slain infants lay motionless on the ground. In the background, an arched aqueduct and townscape can be seen behind the scenes of violence.
