DescriptionBust-length portrait of Jacques Cathelineau (1759-1793) after the painting by Girodet-Trioson (1824). It portrays the French royalist leader of a revolt against the French Republic during the Wars of the Vendée. The subject has gently curling shoulder-length hair and wears a voluminous cloak. A rosary or crucifix peaks out from the lapels of his jacket.
