DescriptionReplication of a cruzeiro--the predecessor to the real in Brazilian currency. The fake bill is a denomination of zero printed in red, and closely resembles the design of the cruzeiro. Inserted into a larger circle on each side of the bill where a portrait of a political leader or historical figure would have traditionally been placed, Meireles depicts a photo of an indigenous man on one side, and a contemporary man cowering in a corner on the other. This record has been reviewed by University Galleries staff but may be incomplete or contain errors.
