DescriptionSheet from "Encyclopédie, ou dictionnaire raisonné des sciences, des arts et des métiers." Interior of a diamond cutter's workroom. Bottom section features detailed schematics of the machine pictured in use above. This is not from the first edition--the image has changed slightly, and the caption in the first edition only reads, "Diamantaire" (diamond cutter)--and here has been expanded. Benard is listed not as the engraver but as "direxit" or supervising the engraving.
