DescriptionChrist in red and purple hues. "BEN" along top of print. "EDICTIO" along left side of print. "ND" along top right side of print. Interpretations Early Work Corita made her first notable print, the lord is with thee, in 1952. The figures’ stylization reflects her interest in Byzantine art, the subject of her master’s thesis. In benedictio, from 1954, Corita continues her interest in a medieval aesthetic and in layering color, but there are signs of a shift, including a brighter palette, the inclusion of text, and the incorporation of a modern icon: a tiny model of the Eames’ house in Christ’s left hand. -Erin Maynes, Hoehn Curatorial Fellow for Prints, 2014-17
