DescriptionArched etching of the painting by Rubens now in Neues Schloss Schleissheim (Rooses 361) with some variations. Panneels also completed a drawing (now in the Museum of Fine Arts, Budapest) at the same time, which is very similar to this design, but in reverse. At the bottom right, an arched entrance to the tomb reveals three women kneeling with the Virgin Mary's abandoned burial shroud, flowers strewn over the sheet in reference to the lilies that miraculously filled her empty tomb. The twelve apostles look on, some down at the empty shroud, and others up to the heavens, where the Virgin Mary is being held by a cloud of putti, her clothing elegantly swirling around her.
