DescriptionHand coiled and scraped, flat circular base, wall rounded to high shoulder, constricting to tall neck and thick rolled rim, restricted vessel, slipped, burnished, orange-buff ground, dark red-brown on exterior, partially on base and just inside of interior of rim. Incised design consists of stylized Avanyu water serpent around shoulder, incised band around neck of vertically elongated, narrow wing-like elements that gradually taper to point at proximal end near rim.InterpretationsPer Stefani Salkeld, 1996:"Burnished, and matte-painted design of Avanyu, with bird tracks; oxidation fired. Artist's name illegible."
